SAUNA ETIQUETTE AND MISTAKES

Whether it's a gym, spa, or home sauna, the benefits are the same, but so are some of the mistakes we make when we are new to saunas. If you are new to sauna bathing, you may be making some mistakes without realizing it, but don't worry; we will help you avoid the most common mistakes people make in a sauna.

NOT TAKING A SHOWER
Always take a shower before entering the sauna. You will ensure proper hygiene for yourself and other sauna visitors and prepare your skin for the steam. Getting rid of sweat, toxins, or cosmetic layers will leave your skin smooth and open. Furthermore, your sauna will thank you for keeping it clean and pristine by not tracking in dirt.

EATING BIG MEALS BEFORE A SESSION
Saunas and high-calorie food do not go hand in hand. Avoid fish and meat products when you visit the sauna as they are too much for your kidneys. Saunas have high temperatures, and the body is trying to get rid of toxins when digesting. Filling your stomach means an extra intoxication happening inside you. This may cause you to experience nausea, headache, and even food poisoning.

SOAP IN THE SAUNA
Some people use soap in the sauna. We do not recommend using soap during a sauna session as it can dry the skin. The ideal option would be to shower before your session to keep a high-hygiene sauna experience for you and everyone else.

INCREASING THE SAUNA TEMPERATURE TO THE MAX
Abusing high temperatures in a sauna is terrible for your health. A very high temperature will worsen the sweating, which is the opposite of what you want to achieve. In this case, overheating also damages your body. If you start to feel discomfort, leave the room immediately. You're not trying to become french toast; you should be aiming for a comfortable session instead.

If you want more heat, increase the humidity rather than the temperature. Just pour some water over the sauna rocks, and that will do the work.

COSMETICS AND PERFUME
If you have plans to go to the sauna, you should refrain from using perfume or makeup at least 24 hours prior. Why? Because when inside the sauna, these things enter the inside of your body. And everyone knows how terrible a combination of perfume and sweat is.

SYNTHETIC CLOTHES
A sauna is a place without synthetic clothes. While everyone should be naked, it is not always possible. When you have to wear something, make sure it is cotton or linen. The skin needs to breathe.

NOT ENOUGH LIQUIDS
It is rare for people to go inside the sauna after consuming enough liquids. When in the sauna, the body sweats a lot, so you need to have some backup. You should drink between 1 to 2 liters of either tea, water, or other non-alcoholic beverages.

We don't recommend drinking alcohol, energy drinks, or coffee.

ALCOHOL IN A SAUNA
Mixing sauna and alcohol is not a good idea.

It would be best if you only drank non-alcoholic beverages when in the sauna. Ingestion of large amounts of alcohol while sauna bathing may affect the body's ability to maintain blood pressure.
